Silver Maples Retirement Community Culinary Department serves up healthy fare, community support, and resident participation

Tom Zigman takes culinary wellness to a whole new level

Think of homemade blueberry Belgian waffles, deli sandwiches with fresh baked breads and soups from scratch, dinner entrees to rival any fine-dining restaurant, and a café with daily specials. Sound like a fine hotel or trendy downtown eatery?  Think again.  These are the kinds of meals served up each and every day at either of three fine-dining  venues at the Silver Maples Retirement Community in Chelsea.

Tom Zigman is the new Director of Culinary Wellness at Silver Maples, and he is taking the food service department to a whole new level.  With 35 years of experience behind him, he is all about creating delicious food that is healthy, supporting the local community, and giving residents an opportunity to contribute to the menu.

“Some of the initiatives include eliminating trans fats, reducing deep-fried foods and reducing fat and sodium from recipes, all in a way that still tastes good,” Zigman said.
